Crap-ty

Some people are crafty (Steph, I mean YOU!) while some of us are stuck with being what I call "crap-ty". We wish we were creative but we're just not. I fall into the crap-ty category whenever I attempt to get crafty around the house.

Exhibit A: The "stove" I made for V. Note the circle-like knobs on the front. I don't even have the patience to cut a nice, round circle much less make something that looks more like a knob.

Exhibit B: The "helmet" I made V out of the foil off of tonight's dinner casserole. Classy, huh?

I get points for trying, right?

Development Director

A few folks have asked about the job changes afoot at NC Theatre...I am now the development director and for some reason that meant I had to get a head shot done today. Is that a perk? or punishment?

Does this look like a person you want to give a 6 figure gift to? Just say YES!

And no Noel, my new job does not mean I get to put make-up on anyone before the shows.

Weekend Update...Better Late than Never!

The Bruces had a fun-filled weekend downtown! Saturday we headed to Moore Square to check out the Sparkcon/Visual Arts Exchange street painting festival. So cool! Hundreds of artists, a lot of them high school students, were chalking amazing artwork on the street. V joined in on the fun.
OK, so we really outlined her and let her draw "snakes" on the sidewalk while we attempted to channel our artistic sides. Turns out, we're not all that artistic. Does this look anything like her?

Next we headed to the Bugfest at the Natural History Museum a few blocks down the road. The place was off the hook. V got a bee stamp on her hand and was happy as a clam. Thank goodness we have a few more years before she cries to get her face painted or jump in the bouncy things- those lines were crazy! Anyway, the most interesting thing we saw was:

Yes, that man is covered in bees. I was a little afraid she'd have nightmares about it, but she loved it.

We wrapped up the day at Marbles. V was having a "daddy day" and this was a sweet picture that kind of sums it all up:

Great weekend!

September = Busy

Excuses for not posting recently:

1. I've started running regularly again in the morning and I am exhausted at night.
2. 90210 is back on air and I am addicted.
3. Facebook took over my life for a few weeks.
4. Work is crazy- big boss quit, I got a promotion, we are in the middle of a show.
5. I am lame.

Here is what else has been going on:

Steph and James Coyne came for a weekend visit and V fell in love with James all over again. Are they cute together or what?

Steph and I have all but picked out the wedding invitations for their big day in 2030. This picture foreshadows what V has to look forward to approximately one week after they tie the knot. :)

V learned to drink the milk out of her cereal bowl.

And last but not least, V has learned her name. What's your name? Ginny Bruce!

Does anyone smell baloney?

No, I'm not talking about Sarah Palin.

I'm talking about MY LITTLE PONY! Although I was teased relentlessly by my 2 brothers (and father) that "My Little Pony Smells Like Baloney" my love for those darn ponies was never diminished. I've kept ALL of my ponies in my parents' attic for the last 20 years and now...sweet revenge is mine.

VIRGINIA LOVES THEM. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me. Years of being tortured by my older and younger brother, who sometimes joined taunting forces with not only my father, but my 5 male cousins on the Shackelford side, made me want one thing- A DAUGHTER (OK, so really I wanted a sister but my parents gave me a firm "no" on that back in '78 when my younger brother was born). V has fulfilled all my dreams by liking the very same toys I liked, nay, adored as a child!

Lucky for her the '80s are "in" 'cause she also inherited a strawberry carrying case FULL of original Strawberry Shortcake dolls. Talk about bringing back memories. They even retained some of their fruity essence.

Ah, the things that excite us as parents. Good thing almost-2-year-olds are so easy to please.
