What does true love look like?
Roses on Valentine's Day?
A newborn baby's skin?
90 year old geezers walking through the park holding hands?
Maybe...but what about this?
Leftover fried okra in a plastic bag...with instructions on how to reheat it to perfection. My mama loves me!
Life as a veggie family ain't always easy...but it is interesting. And funny. And messy. And well, kind of loud.

Inherited Traits
I can recall lots of examples of things that are predictable inherited traits from 10th grade biology: eye color, hair color, ability to roll your tongue, etc.
What you never predict are the unknown weird things your kids will inherit.
Like the Shackelford tendency to read rather than actually engage in conversation (no matter who is around).
Or the Freeman "Noassatall" Disease (creating ill-fitting pants all across the South).
V has inherited her mother's tendency to use her tongue. Not just for talking.
Sometimes she even "cleans" our glass front door with her tongue-without being asked- resulting in a 2 minute time out. Gross.
We can't wait to see what else she's inherited!

Chewed Out
So I was making up the bed just a few minutes ago and V starts crying. Since I've been sick and T was sick today I assume she must be feeling bad and I go in to check on her. Instead of finding a sick baby, I find an irate one. Actual conversation:
Me: What's wrong baby?
V: Mama (crying)
Me: Are you OK?
V: Mama...making noises.
Me: Do you want to rock and sing some songs?
V: Mama making NOISES and I can't sleep.
Me: What?
V: Mama making noises. Mama making noises. Mama making lots of loud noises.
Me: Did I wake you up getting the sheets out of the closet?
V: Mama making TOO MANY NOISES!
Me: I am sorry baby. Can I sing you some songs to get you back to sleep?
V: Yes but don't make any more noises.
Me: Sorry Virginia. I won't make any more noises.
